The flood

They already monitored supplier pricing, competitor sites, tender portals and product feeds. The alerts weren't the problem. Their uselessness was. A 3% price change on a product nobody sold looked identical to a competitor undercutting a line tied to a live opportunity, and someone had to investigate every one just to know which was which.

Two people worked it full time, with the manager stepping in whenever volume ran above normal. Even so, coverage only reached 40 to 50 percent of signals, 60 to 70 on a good day. The rest went unreviewed, not just unactioned, so some of what mattered went out with the noise.

The alerts weren't the problem. Their uselessness was.

What we found, and left alone

They already had a mechanism for what to do with a signal: discard it, escalate it, investigate it. Some of it was written down, most of it lived in people's heads. The commercial response stayed exactly where it was, and anything outside the criteria the workflow already covers, an out-of-the-ordinary or genuinely new kind of signal, still goes straight to the team to decide.

What we built

Watchtower watches for changes, matches them against the actual catalogue and open opportunities, removes duplicates, and enriches what survives with the SKU, previous and new price, percentage change, and whether an opportunity is attached. Every signal passes once through Sync Keeper, which updates the catalogue when the signal calls for it and leaves it alone when it doesn't. Every signal gets reviewed and logged with the action taken, not just the ones that reach a person.
